About Sean Mahoney
Mahoney’s career in Public Relations began in the entertainment industry in the ear-
ly 1980’s and consisted of designing and implementing PR campaigns for clients
ranging from TV programs like Happy Days, CHiPs and Cheers to individuals like
Bob Hope, George C. Scott, Bob Newhart, Jack Lemmon, Christie Brinkley and Terry
Bradshaw. He also represented and toured with recording artists including The
Who, the Bee Gees, The Cars, Keith Richards and Neil Diamond along with major tel-
evised live entertainment events including Live Aid, the 40th Anniversary of Atlantic
Records Live from Madison Sq. Garden and multiple Grammy Awards. In the early
90’s Mahoney’s career veered into corporate marketing with stints handling major
motion picture and destination-marketing campaigns along with agency experience
gained at Burson-Marsteller and KGB Marketing where he worked with companies
including Smirnoff, Audi (launching A8, A6, A4 and TT), Cadillac (Escalade) and Red
Bull as well as time spent representing several Winston Cup NASCAR teams includ-
ing the Tide NASCAR. In early 2000 Mahoney was recruited to become in-house
corporate communication counsel at retail chain, Hollywood Video in Portland, OR,
and later held a similar role at semiconductor giant, Micron Technology, Inc., (NYSE:
MU) in Boise, ID, both publicly traded companies.
Returning to LA in 2005, Mahoney became West Coast Media Director for INK Inc.
PR, a leading virtual PR firm based in Kansas City. He later set up his own company,
South of Rose Communications, LLC, representing a diverse range of companies and
he splits his time between the two. The direction his career has taken includes ser-
vicing clients specializing in alternative energy, biofuels, recyclables, biotechnology
and entertainment along with consumer goods, services that have included consult-
ing the A1GP racing series and representing Canadian auto manufacturer Electra
Meccanica’s recent introduction of their single-occupant EV, the SOLO. Clients have
mostly included multi-nationals operating in the US, Latin America, Asia and Europe.
Media outlets he’s worked with directly include the NY Times, LA Times. CNBC, CNN,
Fox News, WSJ, all major broadcast and cable networks and trades, most major-city
daily/weekly newspapers, national wire services and most major online news out-lets.
